The opportunity

Due to our phenomenal growth, we are seeking an experienced Back-end Engineer skilled in working within AWS & using Node.js. In this newly created position, you will get to play a massive role in the future success of Immersive Labs by defining and implementing innovative solutions. You will contribute new ideas and take the lead in helping improve the way we work as we scale, working alongside a world-class team of Engineers.

You'll get to work in a friendly multi-disciplinary agile team and there will be plenty of opportunities to learn new skills and technologies. You will also get access to our cyber skills and secure coding platform, and on top of this, you will have a personal technical skills budget.  

You will have an opportunity to join Trailblaze time which is a whole day once every 2 weeks to innovate and explore new tools and technologies.

 

Your main responsibilities (we're scaling fast, so these may change as we grow):

You'll get to immerse yourself in a modern tech stack such as Node.js and React, along with cloud-native technologies in AWS such as Lambda and DynamoDB.

You'll join a small team within our SnapLabs division, responsible for building and running a modern serverless application which manages infrastructure for numerous customers. We want to give you a place where you'll learn from us and we'll learn from you through getting involved in the following:

  • Design, build, and improve a serverless application running in AWS
  • Formulate technical solutions from product requirements in collaboration with others to create a highly stable, secure, scalable and extensible platform
  • Architect and implement scalable infrastructure solutions
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and bugs in the code, and devise solutions to these problems to minimise customer impact
  • Build and maintaining good test coverage over all aspects of the codebase by performing unit tests and integration tests

  • Demonstrable and up-to-date knowledge of Node.js (experience with TypeScript would be an advantage)

The opportunity

We are putting together a team to develop a new product and need a bright and enthusiastic Lead Back-End Developer with significant knowledge of Ruby, Ruby on Rails, RESTful APIs and object-oriented design. 

This is an exciting opportunity to be responsible for developing a truly ground breaking product as you become a key influencer within our team, collaborating with our technical leadership to define and execute our long-term technical strategy, with the goal of creating a highly stable, secure, scalable and extensible platform.

Your main responsibilities (we're scaling fast, so these may change as we grow):

You'll get to immerse yourself in Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Docker, Kubernetes and AWS. We want to give you a place where you'll learn from us and we'll learn from you through getting involved in the following:

  • Formulate technical solutions from product requirements in collaboration with others to create a first class platform
  • Design, build and maintain an efficient, reusable and reliable codebase 
  • Coaching / mentoring and pairing with engineers and being an ambassador for Immersive Labs at external events and conferences
  • Influencing the long-term technical strategy based on current and future needs
  • Improving developer experience by reducing toil e.g. local development set up, CI/CD improvements, test suite optimisation etc.
  • Maintaining good test coverage over all aspects of the codebase by performing unit tests and integration tests
  • Identify bottlenecks and bugs in back-end code, and devise solutions to these problems to minimise customer impact
  • Be actively involved in all team ceremonies, 2-week sprints and retrospectives, working closely with product managers and other disciplines
  • Work closely with the front end developers; our front end applications are developed in JavaScript, React, HTML5, and CSS3

The opportunity

We are putting together a team to develop a new product and seek a highly talented and experienced Ruby / Ruby on Rails engineer to join us as a Principal Ruby Engineer to support the rapid growth of our Engineering team. You will get the opportunity to work in a cross-team capacity, solving hard technical problems, design architectural improvements, while constantly looking for ways to develop other engineers. 

You will become a key member of our technical leadership team alongside 2 other Principal Engineers in the current engineering team you'll collaborate to define and execute our long-term technical strategy, with the goal of creating a highly stable, secure, scalable and extensible platform.

  • Coaching / mentoring and pairing with engineers and being an ambassador for Immersive Labs at external events and conferences
  • Defining the long-term technical strategy based on current and future needs
  • Improving developer experience by reducing toil e.g. local development set up, CI/CD improvements, test suite optimisation etc.
  • Proactively identifying problems, scoping possible solutions and championing prioritisation with Engineering Managers and Product Managers

Senior Cloud Operations Engineer

As a key member of our Infrastructure division, you will partner with our Platform delivery and Content teams to deliver our Lab environment playing an important part in giving certainty to the platform security, while improving stability and availability. 

Here at Immersive Labs, we utilise a modern AWS-based tech stack, Docker, Kubernetes & Terraform - perfect for you to immerse (pun intended!) yourself in to shape and feed our technology roadmap to help steer our platform into the future. 

You will manage and support the unique Kubernetes implementation across multiple AWS accounts and regions; ensuring continuous delivery of containers and seamless scaling to meet user demand.

  • Work with the Engineering and Content teams on new projects/products and how best to deploy them
  • Support the development team's ability to rapidly and safely deploy code and configuration
  • Maintain and improve the DevOps teams processes and ensure that our services are robust, resilient, secure, and compliant
  • Build and maintain a secure DevOps lifecycle, with continuous improvement to meet evolving application and compliance requirements.

In this role you will be wholly responsible for a particular product line and roadmap, owning the vision, and becoming the expert for your product. You will develop expert understanding of the commercial and strategic priorities of the company, and work with the business to identify and shape the features that optimise the realisation of customer value in line with the strategic business initiatives and stakeholder requirements.

Additionally, you’ll work alongside the Delivery and Engineering teams to deliver these features, defining and measuring success.

 

Your main responsibilities (we're scaling fast, so these may change as we grow):

  • Become an expert in how the major elements of the product work, providing product support to Sales and Customer Success, demonstrating product features and eliciting user feedback.
  • Take a data-driven, analytical approach to prioritise and refine new features and product enhancements that meet customer and business needs.
  • Set, track and optimise success metrics to ensure that deliverables are defined and measurable.
  • Prioritise and organise features and technical requirements for your product area, ensuring a focus is maintained on delivering value to customers.
  • Ensure a clear product roadmap is created, managed and communicated so that development work, marketing and release can be planned. Work closely with the marketing and sales teams to ensure effective go-to-market. 
  • Collaborate cross-product with other Product Managers to ensure any inter-team dependencies are taken into account during planning, and to share best practices.
  • Lead and inspire the Product Delivery teams, ensuring they have the rationale and motivation required to deliver the product vision.
  • Develop user stories with agreed acceptance criteria. Work with the Delivery and Engineering teams to ensure stories are correctly refined, technical constraints, dependencies and prerequisites are identified and the product vision is realised.
  • Ensure a balance of Technical Debt, feature development and Technical Prerequisite work is undertaken in a responsible and timely manner to ensure feature delivery and product performance.
  • Develop and maintain strong market awareness and deep understanding of the cyber landscape, key competitors, and a range of customer and user segments.

  • Technical aptitude with the ability to evaluate different approaches to delivery
